Error code 9027 during upgrade

Problem Summary
I upgraded from Total Defense Internet Security Suite 2007 to Total Defense Internet Security Suite 2010/Version 7. I recently upgraded again to get the latest version. During the upgrade, I get an install error message with error code 9027.
Problem Resolution

Cause

Driver cache files from Total Defense Internet Security Suite 2007 are not completely removed. Hence, you get an install error.  If you restart your computer after this failed installation, you will also get the below error message.

Unable to connect to the internet

 

Solution

1.    Restart your computer in safe mode.

2.    From the Start menu, select Run.

Just click the Start button in Windows Vista or Windows 7.

3.    Type drivers and hit Enter.

4.     

In Windows XP

a.    Click the Search button on the toolbar.

b.    On the left pane, under All or part of the file name, type Kmx*u2k*

c.    Click the Search button.

In Windows Vista

a.    Type Kmx*u2k* in the Search text box, at the top right of the window.

b.    Hit Enter.

 

Once the search is complete, all Total Defense Personal Firewall driver files will be displayed.

 

5.    From the menus, select Edit, and Select All.

6.    From the menus, select Edit, and Delete.

A box comes up prompting you to confirm delete.

7.    Click the Yes button.

8.    Restart your computer.

The computer comes back to normal mode.

 

Installation or upgrade to Total Defense Internet Security Suite 2010/Version 7 will now go through without error messages.
